Enlisted 16/1/1826.\line August, 2002 No documentation to prove that Richard is my great, great grandfather, however have assumed he is from info on LDS family search. 17 September, 2002. LDS film no 0523856 sighted on above date. Marriage between Richard Farrow and Mary Peters. Married by banns on 22 November 1830 in Archdeaconcy of Bombay and diocese of Calcutta in Ahmednagger. Richard's profession shown as Sergeant of Artillery. Have burial of a Richard Farrow in 1873 vol. 47 fol 168 - to check.

Email from Phyll \line Kish (in London to BL) - she has birth of a Richard Farrow on 30 June 1833, christened 21 July 1833 - father listed as Drill Sergeant, Artillery. More than likely this is one of William Joseph's (Justin) siblings. Also, birth of an Elizabeth Farrow, daughter of William and Mary ... William in HM 84th Regt. Elizabeth born on 5 Feb 1805 and christened 3 June 1810. William and Mary possible parents of Richard. (OIOC ref N3/4/396). 14 November 2005. L/MIL/12/109. Richard Farrow. Corporal in the 2nd Company, 1st Battalion Artillery. Attested 26 November 1825 for an unlimited term. From York. He arrived on the 'Duchess Atholl' on 5th June 1826. No date given for his last enlistment. He became a sergeant on 31 October 1832. Drill Sergeant in 1833. Sergeant Major in 1835 and transferred to the Town Major's List on 23rd May 1840 as a sub-conductor (a warrant officer). He died on 9th November 1846.

Obit in Bombay Times and Journal of Commerce:

At Bombay on the night of the 8th of November Mr Conductor Richard Farrow of the Ordnance Department aged 38 years leaving a disconsolate wife and seven children to bemoan their irreparable loss. The deceased was for many years Serjeant Major of the 1st Battalion of Artillery which rank he held with much credit and was highly respected both by Officers and Men.

CASES OF ABSCESS OF THE LIVER WITH REMARKS ON THE \line TREATMENT BY OPERATION\line by M. Stovell, Esq. Surgeon European General Hospital, Bombay\line 1852

Abscess of the liver. Opening of the intestines. Death. Richard Farrow, 39 sub-conductor of the ordnance dept. who had repeatedly suffered attacks of hepatitis while in the Deccan for many years was admitted into hospital on 27th October with a return of the complaint, which terminated in suppuration. Prior to admission, he was seized with vomiting and passed a large quantity of pus per anum, evidently from the opening of an abscess into the intestines. He was in a very exhausted state and he sunk and died on 8th November. His friends would not permit a post mortem examination.

Notes for William Joseph Farrow

Newspaper clipping + marriage cert. of son, William John. Wife may have been deceased by then as no mention of her being with him. According to letter from Millie, he travelled from India to Africa in 1906. His letter mentions a proposed return to London by steamer on 5 Jun 1908. Was living in India with Agnes in 1911 and remained there for some years. Was with Ida in Calcutta in 1915. Was at 16 Metcalfe St Calcutta in 1916.

She died on 21 August 1952 in 39 Moss St, West Ryde NSW at the age of 70 years, 18 days. She was buried in August 1952 in Field of Mars Cemetery, Lane Cove NSW. Children:

  1. Nellie Farrow (born 26 August 1913 in Hurstville NSW. She died on 11 April 1993 in Shellharbour NSW.
