The information on the Lillywhite Tree was obtained from the film I viewed today at the local FHC. I can confirm that it gave James Lillywhite as the father of the bridegroom (John Edward Lillywhite). The father of the bride was given as David Walters, bearing in mind that she was a widow and her maiden name was no doubt Walters.

 

I should add that  our family are connected to the Lillywhite family through the marriage of Laura Evangeline Lillywhite to James Haddock in Trichinopoly in 1878. We know that Laura was the daughter of John Edward Lillywhite who was an Assistant Apothecary. Clearly that is not the one mentioned in the posting I made today.

 

It is all very confusing, two men named John Edward Lillywhite, both getting married in the same year and practically in the same place. There will surely be an explanation, somewhere and at some time. We just have to keep on digging. That's what genealogy is all about.

 

Meanwhile I will still keep looking for the descendents of James Haddock and Laura.

Laura Evangeline Lillywhite born 12 August 1858 in Trichinopoly, India.  married James HADDOCK on 9 September 1878 in Secunderabad/Trichinopoly, India. He was aged 21 years and an army Commissariat Sergeant and she a spinster of 20 years. James was posted to Burma and then back to Madras, India. Children:

  1. John James Haddock was born in Rangoon on 11 September 1879.

  2. George Herbert Haddock was born on 22 February 1881 in Thayetmyo, Burma.

  3. Ethel Mona Haddock was born on 30 March 1883 in Madras.

  4. Madeline Bertha Haddock, was born on 11 November 1884 in Vepery (Madras).

Our main interest is in the Haddock family line although we were interested in this newly discovered connection with the Lillywhite family.

James Henry LILLYWHITE married Jean Kathleen PHILLIPS in Calcutta, India in 1940.  They had 2 children.  They were divorced and Jean Hood emigrated to the United States with the two children and remarried.  Later information indicated Mr. Lillywhite remarried as well, moved to London, England and had other children.  I would like to correspond with anyone who has any information concerning this family.  Patricia Schoeman (nee Lillywhite)
